The entire Greek system at Kent State has been under review for the past two semesters, and the review is nearing an end.

A goal of the assessment was to create better marketing, communication and organization among Greek members.

"I believe we can do things better," Dean of Students Greg Jarvie said. "They do a lot of great things, but they maybe don't promote it well enough."

If an individual fraternity or sorority does something inappropriate, it can go through a year-long review, but this is a different type of assessment, Jarvie said.

The results of the assessment, headed by Jarvie, will be completed within the next two weeks. Focus groups have been held with chapter advisers, the Inter-Fraternity Council, Panhellenic Council and Black Greek Council.

Inter-Fraternity President Sean Mostov said he thought the focus groups helped.

"It was good to get all our emotions out," he said.

An electronic survey was also administered to members of the Greek community that asked questions such as why students choose to be Greek.

Ari Fleeman, president of Delta Chi, and members of his fraternity participated in the survey. He said the questions were general and asked what they did as a fraternity.

The results of the survey, which aren't available yet, will be used for recruitment and retention, Jarvie said.

He said the review wasn't spurred because of problems or issues Greeks were having but rather so the Greek system could be more successful.

"It was time to do it," he said.
