An entire hip-hop and urban music showcase, a first of its kind this year for Got to Believe Entertainment, will be coming to the Kent music scene.

GTB Entertainment is a student-run record label that is a part of the record promotions class taught by assistant professor Gene Shelton.

The hip-hop and urban music showcase will be at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Green Room, and it will cost $5 at the door.

The showcase will feature SIR, 2fly, Xcursion, Felonious Punk, 80 Proof and Kyzer Sosa of the Usual Suspects, Poetic Assassins and Errald Jackson.

GTB's compilation CD will be completed in two weeks. The compilation CD is a promotional tool that is free and will be available at any of the upcoming showcases.

There will be 16 tracks on the CD with about two songs from each artist.

Ty Kellogg, senior electronic media major and GTB president, said GTB felt it was time for a change from their mostly rock focused shows because the Kent music scene does not provide a lot of entertainment in the hip-hop and the urban culture and lifestyle.

"The music culture in Kent is changing and a lot of people are starting to recognize it," he said. "We can play a very large role in it if we continue to push hard by doing things differently than everyone else. This is an entirely hip-hop show that is affiliated with the university that gives exposure to artists who truly deserve it."'
