Commissioner, sheriff primaries decided

Incumbent Christopher Smeiles has won the Democratic primary for the Portage County commissioner seat, defeating 19-year-old Brett McClafferty 59 percent to 41 percent.

In the race for the Democratic nomination for the county's sheriff, David Doak defeated Jeff Buck 65 to 35 percent.

Results are based on about 92 percent of precincts in the county reporting.
