While I enjoy working at Sheetz, the one thing I can't get over is the horrendous music that plays in the store. But I have to say Sheetz music really outdid itself with one simple cover song that played last weekend. I was running register when it came on. (0) comments
We are all accustomed to the typical movie romance timeline: Boy meets girl through unconventional circumstances, boy and girl fall madly in love, then through the course of the story either a) stay madly in love or b) fall apart tragically. In "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," the chance meeting is a crucial part in the plot of the movie as Norah convinces Nick to be her "boyfriend for five minutes" after just meeting him at a music venue. For those who haven't read the novel or saw the film yet, "Nights in Rodanthe" tells the story of Adrienne (Diane Lane), an overworked single mother, and Paul (Richard Gere), the surgeon trying to escape his past. 'Fate' brings the two together for one romantic weekend alone at an inn located on the North Carolina coast (yes, this is a "chick flick"). (0) comments

Not much can turn life into a boldly introspective mirror better than a nine-month stay in Woodstock, N.Y. Rachael Yamagata would know - the stay lent itself heavily to her second album, "Elephants…Teeth Sinking Into Heart," due out next Tuesday. "It's very isolated from anyone or anything," Yamagata said. (1) comment
Rachael Yamagata insisted on writing the liner notes for her 2004 debut, "Happenstance." She explained the reasons behind her subtle, at times meager, approach to finding hope in hopelessness as a hopeless romantic. She even warned what we might come to expect from her sophomore effort: "a more cynical approach in which it all goes to hell and nothing makes sense and chance is winning. (0) comments
I would never claim to know all there is to know about music, but there are just some highly unqualified statements that I can't ignore. While I was in class, I overheard a conversation two of my classmates were having about what music they like. The girl was shuffling through an iPod Touch, and the guy was rattling off names of popular rappers. (0) comments
For those members of our generation who grew up being told they were "lazy" or "apathetic," enacting change - real change that makes people stop and take notice - seems to be a foreign concept. This concept may be as foreign as living in displacement camps, involuntarily fighting in wars or even walking a mile to get some water. (1) comment

Learning how to swim is different for all of us. Some of us take classes to learn, some of us are taught by older siblings. But maybe you happen to be the kid who learned by getting thrown into a body of water by a ruthless parent. As you're splashing around, you're overwhelmed. (0) comments
Wild Goats Café, located across the street from the Kent Free Library, goes unnoticed by most Kent students, which is unacceptable. Café may mean a small restaurant serving light meals and coffee, but Wild Goats Café has many large-portioned meals that make choosing what to eat more difficult than one would think. (0) comments
In a time when the term "green" is in the speech of every presidential candidate, on the covers of magazines and even in conversations in many homes, Thomas Friedman, New York Times columnist and author of "The World Is Flat," gives a firmer definition of what exactly a green revolution would entail. Something a little too wicked has come to Cleveland's E. 14th Street this fall, complete with witches, dramatic lighting and Oriental gongs. No, if you're expecting a review of some new-age haunted house, try again next year. To open its inaugural season at its new home at the Hanna Theatre, the Great Lakes Theatre Festival presents an impressive staging of one of Shakespeare's biggest and most towering tragedies.
