ChaiPod hosts first Jewish music lounge at Kent State

Jewish musicians and music enthusiasts gathered under a white tent for an afternoon of food and music yesterday in Centennial Field. This was the first event hosted by ChaiPod, a group created to bring together Jewish students who share a love for music. (0) comments

Freedom House project growing

Veterans will soon have a new place to hang their hats because Freedom House is getting a new facility. The Freedom House, a facility for homeless veterans, will still be located in Kent, but the new facility, which will have 14 beds, will be larger than the old and have five beds more than the current shelter. Police Academy teaches valuable career skills

The commander shouts, "What do you want?" The trainees respond, "More PT (physical training)!" The Commander says, "Why?" They respond, "I want the badge!" This is the start to a typical day of training at the Kent State Police Academy. The academy is in its first semester at the university, which is the result of a collaboration among the department of justice studies, the Office of Continuing Studies and the Brimfield Police Department. More than 100 years ago, an important debate was taking place in Kent. Merchants were suffering. At times, they couldn't get goods to their stores over the muddy and rutted roads. Customers, too, were having trouble making it to the shops. Kent was falling behind the times. (0) comments

USS discusses FlashFAST issues

Members of Undergraduate Student Senate expressed dissatisfaction with FlashFAST scheduling during yesterday's meeting. "The best thing about (FlashFAST) is you can use the back button," said Michael Hammond, senator for research and development. Kali Price, senator for academic affairs, who has also been working with the registrar's office and the new system, said she thinks FlashFAST is better than the previous system, Web For Students. Kent State is taking part in the event by holding a campus-wide food drive that started Oct. 10 and ends today.
