Across the United States, counterfeit organizations are producing handbags under these designer names and selling them for a price most buyers can afford. (0) comments

The government cares about those alcohol ads college students see on a daily basis. The Federal Trade Commission is currently compiling questions from the public for a study about alcohol advertising, and is finding that many of the public's concerns relate to college students. (0) comments

Total funding for Pell Grants has decreased for the first time in six years. A recently released study showed that while tuition at colleges and universities has been rising, Pell Grant funds are not keeping up. The manager of Kent State's Student Multimedia Services Studio said budget restrictions are reducing the effectiveness of the studio. For seven years Gary Mote has been developing the studio to the point where universities from across the country, including local universities such as the University of Akron and Cleveland State, have visited it to use what Kent State has as a model. A lightning bug-sized beetle has the university grounds crew worried about the future of its ash trees. The Emerald Ash Borer is on its way to Kent State. Grounds Manager Heather White said she feels "trepidation" about the beetle that has infested 40,000 square miles in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Ontario, Canada. (0) comments

Software is expensive. But a donation of $650,000 worth of software could ease the strain on a college budget. USG Corp., a company that creates manufacturing management software and services, along with local partner Appropriate Technology, donated $650,925 worth of Solid Edge software to the College of Technology. The ninth annual Distinguished Staff Recognition breakfast, held yesterday in the Student Center Ballroom, recognized several faculty for their contributions to the university in the past year. Kent State Thai ensemble continues at Stark campus

Though the country's longest-running Thai music ensemble came to an end after the retirement of Terry Miller, professor of musicology and ethnomusicology at Kent State, the Stark campus was given the chance to carry on the tradition. Under the direction of adjunct professor Priwan Nanongkham, Thai Ensemble students at the Stark campus perform with the largest known collection of Thai instruments in the nation, said Pat Grutzmacher, associate professor and director of instrumental music at the Stark campus.
