In 2006 the state of Ohio passed a law prohibiting smoking in all public places. In order to adhere to the law, Kent State University banned smoking within 20 feet of all campus buildings.

Sonali Kudva's Daily Kent Stater column "The Real Tragedy at Fort Hood" (Nov. 13) amazingly claims that the brutal massacre of 13 dead and 30 wounded is not the real tragedy. The real tragedy, according to Kudva, is that the shooter was a Muslim man and this "appears to have placed those of the Islamic faith in a position of unease, perhaps a defensive position.

This summer I returned to Mumbai. I had lunch in the Leopold Café, I shopped along the trendy Colaba Causeway and wandered to the harbor to have a look at the Taj Palace.

About two weeks ago, I logged onto KentNewsNet.com to catch up on campus news only to be surprised that people were still commenting on my very first column, "Rise of the radical right" (Sept. 4).
