I can understand what you are trying to say here. But your message seems to get lost in preachy right-wing talking points like family values, society, individual freedoms, sacrifice, etc. vague terms which don't really mean anything. Please try to be more analytical. I know this is not a technical paper and you have only so much space, but that would make it more interesting. To me at least :)

Anastasia, I was really enjoying your article, hearing about your wonderful family, and then you lost me here:

You make a lot of assumptions routinely about what considered "generally accepted." I would be worried about some of the laws you would create if given the opportunity to do so.

On another note, you have a talent for painting a vivid picture through words. I agree with Manas. Work on your critical analysis of issues, and you might be a great writer one day.

Why is it right-wing to think that families should be closer, and extended family should be closer than they are now? Sometimes people see things more clearly when they have that unique perspective of having been somewhere else first. I'm sorry you have to dismiss her valid points because you've categorized them under right-wing and hence rejected them. By the way, I'm nowhere near the right politically if that's going to be the next point of attack.
