Nice article. It could have included a little more information about some of the reasons why Studio A might possibly be converted into a dance studio anyway, such as the Roe Green project being $4 million over budget. Taking the Teleproductions facilities is an easy way to add more square footage without building new space. Sadly, even the music department is losing space in this renovation. I hope the Stater will look into what is going on behind the scenes more in-depth and behind the administrative politics. I think it would be incredibly interesting for many students to read more about. I encourage students and faculty to check out and join the SAVE Teleproductions group on facebook (http://kent.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2352019569) and read more about many of the things that the Emmy and Telly award-winning Teleproductions has done for this University, such as documenting most of the special events & sports, recording and projecting the fashion show every spring, taping and putting together the DVD for the spring musical "Hair", taping and crewing the Acting For Camera class, as well as taping & editing many current projects like the Student Disability Services video and the Health Center introduction video. Plus, that doesn't even include what they're doing for off-campus clients. Teleproductions is really the only place on-campus where students can get experience in a real working studio and work on high-priority real-world projects with professional outside clients. Especially for those not interested in TV2 and news broadcasting. Students get to work alongside professionals from the beginning to the end of assignments. From the rough cuts to the editing room, and then being able to feel a true sense of pride in their final versions. It would be a shame for this 45 year old business to be shut down for another departments' benefit, just because their pocket is deeper. I hope to read more as this story develops. Thanks.
