Warnings about loud car stereos fall on deaf ears

Abstract:
Saturday I lay in bed, nursing a headache perhaps brought on by the liquor bottles scattered around my room. All of a sudden my windows start shaking and a terrible noise found its way through the glass. Is Kent experiencing an earthquake? Is the building falling down?

I shake off the impossibles as my brain tries to eat through the back of my skull....

You are a whiny loser. Quit drinking, get some ear plugs or shut up.

Typical "entitlement mentality" thinking of folks who care so much about their "rights" to the exclusion of realizing that those rights also come with responsibilities. Selfish, cavalier, and arrogant attitudes like these are among the reasons this world is going to he** in a handbasket...

Loved the article. I totally agree with everything said. I so wish that, although they might have a learning disability, people would turn down the music.

Huh?

I totally agree with the author, but I think the people driving the vehicles with the loud music think they are doing a public service. Apparently, everyone wants to hear their music, so they turn it up louder. This isn't just a problem in cars either. I've walked through campus on my way to class past many dorm windows with speakers facing OUT the window blasting the same music the resident likely blares in their car. Turn the music down. At the very least, think of all those poor babies that are sleeping that you just woke up with bass notes so low it shakes picture frames off of shelves and could potentially be the "brown note" that makes you crap your pants. Sheesh...

I'm sure the World Health Organization has documented many health problems that are caused by excessive drinking too. (rolling my eyes)

Wow. Who bumped this article up?

Thanks Ted. I like how you took the time to fluff this editorial with a cheap swipe and Kanye West and hip-hop.

Next time, just stick to your (cough) journalism and leave your personal bitching to a Livejournal.

I have mild autism and even hearing light, constant tapping from my neighbor's wall is enough to send me into a meltdown. When I was little, a car idling outside with loud music playing would have me banging my head on the wall and crying. Even a little bit of noise feels like I'm in Grand Central Station with a million people shouting in my ear. And guess what, earplugs don't work. There is no truly effective way of blocking out sound at this time, short of permanently damaging your hearing. You never know what other people are going through...maybe some are hungover, some are sick, some are studying...so why would you be an ass and act like everyone has to hear your music just because you want to?

After all the "advances" we have accomplished throughout time, this is sadly still an accurate representaion of (too many) of our members of society. Please, use some more grey matter. It WILL benefit you and everyone else around.
