Abstract:
John Powers, president of the May 4 Task Force, was the first person to address the crowd of hundreds that had gathered on the same hill National Guardsmen had marched on in 1970 for the 39th annual commemoration yesterday. He said people often ask him why his group continues to "glorify" the darkest day in Kent's history....

I remember this happening so clearly. I was attending college at the University of Southern Illinois when it happened, but the events at Kent State affected us there too - affected me.
The events at Kent State affected our nation in general as well. I don't know that we have learned any collective lessons and I don't know that we will ever heal. But I remember those students, although I never met them. I will always remember them. And I am glad to learn that Allison Krause has been an inspiration to her sister Laurel Krause. That must have been unimaginably hard for Laurel to lose her sister. It was more than hard enough for all of us who didn't know her, or the others. It was an unimaginable event to lose those four people in such a manner.
