Without any outside support, the "Minivan Obama Mamas" are ready, from now until the very end of Election Day, to cart the students and residents of Kent to the polls....
I understand what they are doing and the importance of voting, but they are far to agressive. If someone says no, drop it. I find it problematic that they are so forceful. Often on my way to class I am stopped, sometimes grabbed on the arm, by an over enthusiastic supporter. It has actually made me late to class several times.
I already voted, and it was for Obama, but you know what? If people wanted to vote or wanted a ride, they would seek you out. The large signs and posters, let alone the vans is enough to clue even the dimmest of folk onto the fact that they are giving rides to the polls. While it is a right to vote, it is also people rights to choose not to vote.
While in my opinion Obama is the better candidate, it is also a persons right to choose that, and I have witnessed the Obama supporters being rude or insulting to those saying they are republican or voting for McCain.
I do find it noble that they are driving people to the polls and stressing the importance of voting, but while the means are right, the method is wrong.
I am so excited for our Country with this election- I have never witnessed such young voter enthusiasm as with this current race.
Living totally Red in Findlay, Ohio, feeling like my voice didn't count all these years... I am definately feeling the change.
The organization of the Obama campaign (driven by the younger adults)has been so impressive. Our local Dems office has had such a GOTV drive, that has been working.
Participating in the annual Halloween Parade the other night I witnessed the changing positive attitudes. Whereas we had boos, "the finger" (yes, from children) and nasty yelling 4 years ago, this year we had "Go Obama", "Yes We Can!!!", and the like as we passed out candy to the crowds. The times they are a-changing...:) Go Obama! Stay positive folks, no negative campaigning- doesn't work, never has, never will... Peace!
